Real Medicine

LifeSiteNews:
Eastern Washington’s largest hospital system, Providence Health Care, has said assisted suicide will not be permitted in its hospitals.

The owners of Sacred Heart Medical Center and Holy Family Hospital, a branch of Providence Health Care, said, “Providence will not support physician-assisted suicide within its ministries. This position is grounded in our basic values of respect for the sacredness of life, compassionate care of dying and vulnerable persons, and respect for the integrity of medical, nursing, and allied health professions. We do not believe health care providers should ever be put in a position of aiding a patient in taking his or her own life.”

The statement follows the deeply controversial passage of the ballot measure, I-1000, which on November 4th legalized assisted suicide in Washington State.

Author and bioethicist Wesley Smith commented on Providence’s resolve: “This is important. Medical professionals must resist turning killing … into a medical treatment.”

“None can be forced (yet) to participate,” he says, adding, “Of course, eventually the ideologues will try and force people to participate or be complicit in the killing.”...

Who Was Paid Off?

More on the HPV Scam that is endangering the health and fertility of our young girls (as young as 8) across the (STUPID) West:

For several years the pharmaceutical firm has made aggressive efforts to market the Gardasil human papilloma virus vaccine as a prevention for cervical cancer. The governor of the state of Texas made the administration of this vaccine to young girls mandatory.

What is the truth about this vaccine?

Natural News reporter Mike Adams has uncovered some interesting facts about this vaccine. The FDA has been aware since 2003 that Human Papillloma Virus [1] does not cause cervical cancer. The Gardasil vaccine is unable to eradicate HPV virus from women who have been exposed to HPV(nearly all sexually active women). This makes vaccinating all young women in Texas against HPV virus a very questionable decision....

To say the very least!!!

Where and Why Goes the Research Dollar

LifeSiteNews:

A leading U.K. adult stem cell scientist has left his post at Newcastle University and is heading to France, alleging U.K. universities and funding agencies continually prioritize embryonic stem cell research over his work - despite the superior clinical success of adult stem cells.

Colin McGuckin, professor of regenerative medicine at Newcastle University, told Times Higher Education that he had to put his patients and staff first. "The bottom line is my vocation is to work with patients and help patients and unfortunately I can't do that in the UK." He said France offered a "much better environment" both to "cure and treat more people" and to "do good work".

The Catholic professor's research on umbilical cord blood and adult stem cells at Newcastle has led him to conclude that the U.K. is fixated on embryonic stem cell research to the "detriment" of adult stem cell research, and therefore is taking his research team of 10 to the University of Lyon because France sports a "much more reasoned balance" between the two stem cell branches.

"(France) is very supportive of adult stem cells because they know that these are the things that are in the clinic right now and will be more likely in the clinic," said McGuckin. "A vast amount of money in the UK from the Government has gone into embryonic stem-cell research with not one patient having being treated, to the detriment of (research into) adult stem cells, which has been severely underfunded."

"You would barely know that adult stem cells exist at Newcastle," he added.

Addressing the specific barriers he faced while employed at the north-eastern university, McGuckin mentioned he had to turn down £1.8 million in funding because of insufficient laboratory space and more notably, he said that he was forced to decline a £10 million investment towards a company he was attempting initialize because the university's business development office "could not get it together."

Newcastle is finding it hard to keep top stem cell scientists, as McGuckin's forerunner Miodrag Stojkovic quit his post in favor of one in Spain in 2006.

Newcastle has released a statement saying they never received a £10 million offer but did try extensively to come to an agreement with McGuckin and are currently taking measures to increase the school's academic facilities.

McGuckin is not alone in criticizing the U.K.'s lack of attention to adult stem cell research. Anthony Hollander, a professor of rheumatology and tissue engineering at the University of Bristol reiterated McGuckin's concerns.

"We desperately need more funding for adult stem-cell research because with these cells we really can make a difference to patients' lives, and we can do it now, not in ten years' time as is promised for embryonic stem cells," said Hollander...

Afterall, the success of adult stem cells to ACTUALLY cure patients only serves to dry up the opportunity to exploit embryos, and who knows what use we may have for them in the future...

Brave New World via London

British MP's voted to pass the already infamous Human Fertilization and Embryology Bill, launching themselves into a Brave New World. Not only will the new bill allow human/animal hybrid embryos to be developed, but also allows parents to deliberately develop 'savior siblings'.

Because the gov't limited debate to just two hours, some amendments that would have increased access to abortion, including allowing it in Northern Ireland, were not debated.

Brown's gov't, reputedly extremely unpopular and likely to end the Labour Party's hold, seems determined to pass as many unnatural and morally depraved laws as it can in advance of losing power. One can only feel sorry for the British population, who in the name of 'science' have now been given the status of 'guniea pigs'. The new 'security' proposals, including a requirement to register 'data' when purchasing a cell-phone, will enable the gov't to 'track' more efficiently their new 'menagerie'.

How much divides the gov't of Britain today from the gov't of Germany in 1933?

J&J Paid $68 Million to Settle Birth-Control Cases (Update3)
By David Voreacos

Oct. 10 (Bloomberg) --
Johnson & Johnson has spent at least $68.7 million to settle hundreds of lawsuits filed by women who suffered blood clots, heart attacks or strokes after using the company's Ortho Evra birth-control patch, court records show.

J&J, the world's largest maker of health-care products, avoided trials through the confidential settlements and hasn't released the financial details to investors.

Of 562 complaints reviewed by Bloomberg News, the vast majority of users alleged the patch caused deep-vein thrombosis, or blood clots in the legs, and pulmonary embolisms, or blood clots in the lungs. Some blamed it for heart attacks or strokes. The complaints blamed Ortho Evra for the deaths of 20 women.

One settled case involved Ashley Lewis, a 17-year-old high school junior from St. Louis who died in 2003. She developed a blood clot in her lung after wearing the patch for six months, according to Roger Denton, an attorney for Lewis's family, including her son, who was a one-year-old when she died.

``It's a very tragic case,'' Denton said. Her parents ``were completely unaware that there was any significant risk to her by using the birth-control patch,'' Denton said.

Complaints filed on behalf of 4,000 women in state and federal courts claim the company hid or altered data about the risks of high levels of estrogen released by Ortho Evra. More than 5 million women have used the patch since sales began in 2002. The New Brunswick, New Jersey-based company voluntarily strengthened the warning label in 2005, 2006 and 2008 with the approval of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

Benefit Fund

The $68.7 million estimate of J&J's payments is based on the size of a so-called common benefit fund that finances a group of lawyers who gather evidence available for use by all attorneys who sued the company.

Participants pay 3 percent of their settlements to the fund, which had $2.06 million as of March 31, according to a filing by Janet Abaray, an attorney. She is helping to lead litigation before U.S. District Judge David Katz in Toledo, Ohio, where 1,330 patch cases were consolidated.

``Several hundred individual cases'' had been settled by March 31, Abaray said in an April 17 court document. ``There have been a significant number that have settled since then,'' she said in an interview. Court papers don't indicate how much J&J paid in each case.

`Safe and Effective'

``Ortho Evra provides a needed birth-control option for women and physicians,'' said Gloria Vanderham, a spokeswoman for Ortho Women's Health & Urology unit, a division of J&J subsidiary Ortho-McNeil Pharmaceutical. ``When used according to the FDA- approved label, Ortho Evra is a safe and effective method of hormonal birth control.''

Vanderham declined to comment on any settlements or the company's disclosure practices. In its only public statement about settlements, a company spokesman said in April 2007 that J&J was settling cases, declining to be more specific.

She said the company ``recommended to the FDA that there should be label changes and then worked with the agency to determine what the actual changes would be.''

Johnson & Johnson also ``regularly and properly disclosed data to the FDA, the medical community and the public in a timely manner,'' Vanderham said.

The company's current label warns that Ortho Evra exposes women to 60 percent more estrogen than the typical birth-control pill and that higher estrogen increases side effects. Studies show Ortho Evra can double the risk of serious blood clots compared with the pill, according to the label.

Liability Insurance

In its last annual report on Feb. 26, the company reported no reserves for Ortho Evra cases and said any liability from them ``will be substantially covered by existing amounts accrued in the company's balance sheet and, where available, by third-party product liability insurance.''

J&J, which makes diaphragms and birth-control pills, developed the patch as an alternative method of hormonal birth control for women who might forget to take their pills daily.

The company reports sales of the Ortho Evra patch with those of its birth-control pills, folding both into overall sales of hormonal contraceptives. J&J reported 2007 sales of $900 million for that category, a decrease of 9 percent. The company's total revenue was $61.1 billion.

J&J's annual report cited ``a significant decline'' in Ortho Evra sales because of ``labeling changes and negative media coverage concerning product safety.''

J&J fell $1.73 to $55.85 or 3 percent in New York Stock Exchange composite trading. Shares reached a 52-week low of $52.06, a loss of 9.6 percent, just minutes after trading began.

`Unpredictability'

Drugmakers settle cases to achieve certainty about their liabilities in mass-tort cases, said Stanford University law professor Robert L. Rabin. Finding an upper limit on damages ``diminishes that sense of unpredictability that is anathema to drug companies,'' Rabin said. At a trial, serious injuries may sway juries, he said.

The pace of J&J settlements has increased as the U.S. Supreme Court prepares to hear arguments this fall on the legal doctrine of pre-emption, said plaintiffs' lawyer Andy Alonso. The Supreme Court could rule that pre-emption bars consumers from relying on state law, as Ortho Evra users did, to sue for damages linked to products approved by federal regulators.

J&J argued in court papers filed in federal court in Toledo on Feb. 22 that state jurors can't conclude that a drug is unreasonably unsafe if the FDA's experts say it is safe and effective and the warning label is adequate.

Public Citizen's Health Research Group, a Washington-based advocacy organization, petitioned the FDA in May to ban the patch within six months, even after the three label changes.

`Dangerously High'

``It still has dangerously high levels of estrogen,'' said Sidney Wolfe, director of the group. ``There are no unique benefits. If there is a drug with no unique benefits, and it has unique risks, and there are alternatives, why should anyone use it? What is the purpose of the FDA if not to regulate products like that?''

FDA spokeswoman Rita Chappelle said: ``Because we do have a citizen's petition in house, as a matter of policy we would not make any comment while we are reviewing the petition. We are in the process now of addressing the petition.''

The FDA's Web site includes a question-and-answer page posted after the last label change in January, noting results of three epidemiology studies. Two studies showed a doubling of the risk of serious blood clots compared with typical birth-control pills. The results ``support FDA's concerns regarding the potential for use of Ortho Evra to increase the risk of blood clots in some women,'' according to the Web site.

The risk of women dying while pregnant is higher than that for women using the patch, and the risk of patch users developing blood clots is small, J&J said in the Feb. 22 court filing.

Planned Parenthood

Planned Parenthood Federation of America offers the patch at more than 880 U.S. health-care centers and considers it safe and effective for eligible women, according to Dr. Vanessa Cullins, vice president for medical affairs.

Cullins, a former assistant professor at Johns Hopkins Medical School, said Planned Parenthood has studied all medical data on the patch and advises women on the risks.

``We make Ortho Evra available without reservation for healthy women who are candidates for combined hormonal contraceptive methods such as the patch, the pill, and vaginal contraceptive rings,'' Cullins said. ``We're not making distinctions among this class of contraceptive methods.''

The patch is designed to release continuous levels of progestin and estrogen through the skin and into the bloodstream for seven-day periods. Plaintiffs claim in court filings that J&J ignored warning signs of patch risks as early as 1998.

Volleyball Coach

One case set for trial involves Stephanie Rosfeld, a 25- year-old assistant volleyball coach at the University of Cincinnati who died of a heart attack in 2004 after using the patch for less than a month.

``We think the evidence is strong that she died of a blood clot caused by Ortho Evra that caused her heart attack,'' said attorney Abaray, who represents Rosfeld's husband. ``Our experts have eliminated other causes of death.''

Last year, J&J agreed to pay $1.25 million to settle a lawsuit over the death of Alycia Brown, a 14-year-old girl from La Crosse, Wisconsin, who had two blood clots in her lungs after using the patch, according to a document left in a court file and reviewed by Bloomberg News.

In the document, dated April 21, 2007, the company denies that Brown's use of Ortho Evra ``in any way caused or contributed to any such injuries, losses or damages.'' J&J said it was ``mindful of the uncertainties engendered by the possibility of litigation and are desirous of settling.'' It bars disclosure of the terms to the media or anyone else except as required by law.

College Student

The Brown settlement document was in the file of a lawsuit filed by the family of Zakiya Kennedy, an 18-year-old college student from New York who died after using the patch. Her case was settled in state court in Manhattan last year.

A document filed in state court in Los Angeles on March 3 by attorney Thomas Schultz said his firm, Lopez, Restaino, Milman & Skikos, had settled on behalf of 194 claimants. Another 37 plaintiffs settled, according to an April 16 filing in state court in Los Angeles by the Newport Beach, California, firm of Robinson, Calcagnie & Robinson.

Bloomberg News reviewed 361 cases dismissed ``with prejudice'' in federal court in Ohio, 152 in state court in New Brunswick, New Jersey, and 47 in state court in Los Angeles. Dismissing cases with prejudice means they can't be filed again. Available court documents don't indicate whether Johnson & Johnson settled those cases.

Confidentiality Agreements

Most cases dismissed with prejudice were settled, said several lawyers involved in the litigation, who declined to speak publicly because they signed confidentiality agreements.

Lawyers familiar with the Ortho Evra litigation who requested anonymity said J&J typically settles death cases for more than $1 million, deep-vein thrombosis cases for $125,000 to $175,000, and pulmonary embolisms for $140,000 to $300,000. Those amounts can vary depending on a woman's circumstances, the lawyers said.

The Ortho Evra settlements fall short of those involving Merck & Co.'s Vioxx painkiller. Whitehouse Station, New Jersey- based Merck has agreed to pay $4.85 billion to settle claims that Vioxx caused heart attacks, strokes and sudden death.

Unlike Merck, which reached a global settlement after trying 16 cases, J&J has never gone to trial over Ortho Evra.

Former users of the Ortho Evra patch live in ``constant fear'' of incurring a pulmonary embolism or deep vein thrombosis, according to plaintiffs' attorney Debra Brewer Hayes in Houston, who said she has settled about two dozen cases.

Mother of Two

Monica Johnson was a 41-year-old mother of two from Willingboro, New Jersey, who used the patch for less than a year when she suffered a pulmonary embolism and died in 2005, according to attorney Russell Rein in Pensacola, Florida. The company settled her case, Rein said in an interview.

``Their exposure was pretty high, so they were willing to talk turkey about settling,'' Rein said. `` They have been settling out quite a few cases where the damages are significant and the causation is clear.''

Lakesha Smith, 26, began wearing the Ortho Evra patch after she prematurely delivered a six-month-old baby who died within two hours, according to a complaint filed in state court in New Brunswick. After three weeks on the patch, Smith had seizures and a stroke, leaving her with ``serious and permanent injuries'' not specified in the complaint.

In the pre-emption case, the Supreme Court will hear arguments in November on whether Wyeth must pay $6 million to a musician, Diana Levine, who was injected with the company's anti- nausea treatment Phenergan. She developed gangrene, and her arm was amputated.

``It's pushing everyone to the table to try and settle cases,'' said plaintiffs' attorney Alonso in Great Neck, New York. ``I don't think anyone can honestly say what impact a decision in Levine will have in this litigation.''

Plaintiffs' lawyers are concerned that the Levine case will strengthen J&J's bargaining power, attorney Hayes said.

``If they were to win on pre-emption, the settlement values would drop to zero,'' Hayes said. ``My sense is they want to resolve this, put it behind them and move on.''

King of Death - Canadian Hero

Barbara Kay:

Abortion czar Dr Henry Morgentaler will be receiving his Order of Canada in a quiet little ceremony in Quebec City today. The typical OC is inducted in Ottawa amongst his or her peers. So it is fitting that Dr Morgentaler's should be in Quebec, where the abortion rate is double that of the rest of Canada, and therefore the least likely place in Canada to draw a large protest. Ah well, just one more symbolic displacement from the centre of Canadian life for the peripatetic abortionist.

Dr. Morgentaler was born in Poland. By coincidence CNN has been running a series this week, Eye on Poland, which offers "wide-ranging reports on this complex country tackling a time of transition; from Warsaw to Sopot, to Gdansk, Krakow and Lodz." The series has much to say about the country' history, economy, political progress, arts and so forth. But thanks to information I received via Vancouver medical researcher Brent Rooney, who focuses on premature risk factors, here is a little known fact about Poland that is unlikely to be aired on CNN: Since 1995, Poland's extreme preterm birth rate (XPT) per 100 live births has plummeted by 98% ...

...While the Polish XPT rate has dropped by 21% between 1980-2006, the U.S. preterm birth rate has escalated by 44%. The reason for Poland's "preemie miracle" can be found in the induced abortion rates for the corresponding years. In 1989 Poland instituted a very restrictive abortion law. In the next four years induced abortion rates went down by 98% per 100 live births. Opponents of the law predicted a health disaster. But not only did the preterm rate decrease, maternal mortality also declined by 41% according to studies reflecting rates from 1995-97, while infant mortality decreased by 25%. You can check out the uncontested research link between "prior first trimester induced abortion" as an "immutable medical risk factor associated with preterm birth" here.

...................................................................

So Thanks Dr. Morgentaler. You are certainly a hero of women's health in Canada. I can certainly understand why the Governor General went out of her way to support your honour as a Canadian hero. I can certainly understand why the media has made such an effort to promote your heroic deeds.

NOT. Most Emphatically NOT!!

In all of Canadian history, no man has been MORE DIRECTLY RESPONSIBLE FOR CANADIAN DEATHS than Dr. Henry Morgentaler. The King of Death. Canada's most prolific mass murderer. Champion of baby deaths and women's sterility.

The ORDER of CANADA retains NO WORTH. And Canada is a dupe of genocidal proportions.

"Hope After Abortion"

From the website of 'Project Rachel', serving women who are victims of an abortion:

Understanding Abortion's Aftermath

It's normal to grieve a pregnancy loss, including the loss of a child by abortion. It can form a hole in one's heart, a hole so deep that sometimes it seems nothing can fill the emptiness.

Since 1973, there have been more than 36 million abortions in the United States. While some women report relatively little trauma following abortion, for many, the experience is devastating, causing severe and long-lasting emotional, psychological and spiritual trauma.

Evidence of post-abortion trauma is increasingly attested to by psychologists, counselors and those involved in post-abortion ministry. We now know, for example, that women hurt by abortion may have some or many of the following symptoms:

* Low self-esteem
* Grief (mild to profound)
* Depression (sometimes to the point of suicidal thoughts and attempts)
* A sense of alienation from family and friends
* A feeling of being 'numb,' not able to feel joy from activities that used to be pleasurable
* Isolating self from others to avoid discussing the abortion experience with them
* Guilt and shame
* Difficulty concentrating
* Anger toward self, or the child's father, or others involved in the abortion decision
* Sleep disorders
* Abortion-related nightmares, flashbacks or even sounds of a baby crying
* Alcohol and drug problems, to dull the sorrow
* Desire for a 'replacement' baby
* Anniversary reactions of grief or depression on the date of the abortion or the baby's expected due date
* Problems bonding with her other children (being over-protective but emotionally distant)
* Fear that God will punish her, or is punishing her

Some, especially young girls, experience symptoms soon after the abortion. Counselors tell us, however, that it is more common for the symptoms to occur over the course of five to twelve years after the abortion before a woman seeks help.

In Ramah is heard the sound of moaning,
of bitter weeping!
Rachel mourns her children,
she refuses to be consoled
because her children are no more.

Thus says the LORD:
Cease your cries of mourning,
wipe the tears from your eyes.
The sorrow you have shown shall have its reward...
There is hope for your future.

Marie Stopes Denied Funding By Bush

LifeNews:

"Assistant Administrator for Global Health Dr. Kent Hill, has banned cooperation with UK-based Marie Stopes International (MSI), one of the worlds largest purveyors of abortions, on the grounds that it is complicit in 'coercive abortion and involuntary sterilizations' in China.

MSI denies that it supports China's coercive policies, but its aggressive promotion of abortion, and its longstanding collaboration with China's coercive program leave little doubt that it is not only aware of the massive human rights abuses that have resulted in that country, but is actively collaborating with it.

The USAID instruction, which PRI applauds, will force cutbacks in MSI's population control programs in a number of African countries, including Ghana, Malawi, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, Uganda, Zimbabwe, and Kenya.

MSI's claims that woman in these countries 'will be left with few options other than abortion' is particularly risible, coming as it does from the very agency that is responsible for many of the abortions that are performed in Africa in the first place. PRI investigators, for example, have demonstrated that MSI, through its network of clinics, is one of the biggest abortion actors in Kenya.

For MSI to claim, as it does, that Dr. Hill's order will result in 'unsafe abortions' with the 'likely result' of women's 'death or disability' is not only a gross exaggeration, but should be taken as self-criticism. It is not the Bush Administration's fault if African women and girls die in MSI's clinics. It is the fault of the organization itself.

U.S. law prohibits US foreign aid from flowing to any organization that 'supports or participates in the management of a program of coercive abortion or involuntary sterilization'..."

“A young woman with an unintended pregnancy clearly sacrifices the protective effect of a term delivery should she decide to abort and delay childbearing ... What Would I Do To Protect My Daughters

NOT give them the HPV vaccine for starters:

(LifesiteNews):

"The New England Journal of Medicine posted two articles this week that asked why two human papillomavirus vaccines have been so widely distributed given their unproven effectiveness and high costs.

Gardasil by Merck Sharp & Dohme, which has already received tremendous criticism for the severe and fatal side-effects experienced by users, and Cervarix by GlaxoSmithKline were the two drugs called to question.

As reported by the New York Times, Dr. Charlotte J. Haug, editor of The Journal of the Norwegian Medical Association, whose editorial appeared in Thursday's issue of The New England Journal, said, 'Despite great expectations and promising results of clinical trials, we still lack sufficient evidence of an effective vaccine against cervical cancer. With so many essential questions still unanswered, there is good reason to be cautious.'

Both vaccines were tested for relatively short periods of time, revealed Dr. Haug, and researchers are yet to prove whether or not the vaccines offer lasting immunity and if a user's natural immunity to other strains not eliminated by the vaccines will be compromised. Dr. Haug said it is not certain if the protection offered by the vaccines will even lead to reduced rates of cervical cancer."

Its gratifying to know that the CRTC has no qualms about ads that are untruthful and potentially dangerous.. and that Canadian politicians are willing to risk our teenage daughters health by funding programs to vaccine girls in school with unproven drugs -for the sake of some illusory gains with the electorate.

My girls are not in government schools. Nor are my boys. Its not worth the risk to hand them over to people who don't give a fig about their welfare.

No Room For Morality in Medicine - Huh?

CALGARY HERALD:

"It is profoundly troubling to observe something as personal as the right to live by one's conscience superceded by the collective right to medical services, which is not the least bit endangered in this instance.

There is no justification for accusing a doctor of professional misconduct for acting within the bounds of conscience. Any woman, for instance, whose doctor refuses to refer her for an abortion can turn to the Yellow Pages to find agencies willing to help her.

If the College enacts this policy, it will mean that doctors will leave Ontario, further adding to the physician shortage there, according to Saskatchewan MP Maurice Vellacott, who has introduced a private member's bill, C-537, which would amend the Criminal Code to protect health-care workers' conscience rights.

"The policy jeopardizes or blackmails doctors," says Vellacott. The College's motivation to draft the policy came, Vellacott says, not because of a complaint filed with the provincial human rights commission against a doctor, but rather as a means of pro-actively preventing such complaints.

Last week, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services put forward a regulation to protect doctors and other health-care professionals from being fired or losing their certification if they refuse to provide services that run counter to their personal beliefs.

Health and Human Services Secretary Michael Leavitt described the regulation as "protecting the right of a physician to practise medicine according to his or her moral compass." Planned Parenthood Federation of America Inc., objects to the regulation, saying it risks compromising women's ability "to manage their own health care" because of politics and ideology.

The real ideology at work is one that dictates an individual is not entitled to freedom of conscience if they do not morally support a pet liberal cause. The College should be protecting doctors' rights to live by their consciences, not aiding and abetting human rights commissions in sacrificing those rights on the altar of political correctness."
(h/t bigbluewave)

It occurs to me, that if the doctors remove 'morality' entirely from their profession by disallowing the practice of morality by their own peers, they become purely purveyors of technical skills, and should no longer be allowed the 'special' status that has afforded them an elevated place in our society. They will not warrant our trust. Ironic, that at the very moment they wish to eliminate any pretense of 'caring', they are also trying to lock themselves in as the sole arbiters of life and death, the only authority on rubrics of human value.

Its a power grab, and they are not the 'good' guys.

Go for it Ontario - the rest of us can certainly use more GOOD doctors!!

Politically Correct Healthcare

Stand Your Ground has a post on the 'human rights' crisis facing western society today:

"Secular fundamentalists can't stop complaining about Christians allegedly trying to force their religious beliefs on them. The truth however is - it's the secular fundamentalists that have been forcing their views on us.

Let me reiterate: Whatever rights and freedoms we still have left - we've inherited them from the days preceding Trudeau's "human rights" legislation. Once the so called "human rights" act had been passed and Orwellian tribunals (commonly known as "human rights" commissions) had been installed - we became second class citizens; since then our constitutional rights and freedoms have been continuously taken away to empower special interest groups. "

The expansion of the feeling of empowerment that the HRC's have, to self-monitoring civil 'authorities' of major professions, will affect greatly our access to actual health care. We will be limited to politically correct health care - a very disturbing development, especially in consideration of recent attempts by the CMAto establish itself as the final word on our most basic right - the right to LIFE.

....................................................................................
Caymanians would do well to take note of the strife in other 'civilized' countries like Canada , and take steps to protect itself from ignorantly following the same path to repressive conformity of thought and speech promoted by the secular religionists. Succumbing to the pressure of our British governors to conform to UN and EU 'standards', will affect every area of Caymanian life, and wipe out every vestige of genuine Christian culture and Caymanian spirit of independance and integrity.

THEY DON'T REALLY CARE ABOUT CAYMAN! We are only a 'trade-off' in Britian's own struggle to maintain anything remotely British within Britain itself. The 'BRAVE NEW WORLD' is on the horizon, and we're not going to like it.

Peace At Last

No thanks to the doctors at the Grace Hospital in Winnipeg.

LifeNews reports that Samuel Golubchuk,at the center of a life advocacy/eugenics court battle, has died :

"Golubchuk was a terminally ill elderly patient who family said subjecting to euthanasia would violate their religious beliefs. But his doctors wanted to refuse life-sustaining treatment.

He suffered from a brain injury he sustained in 2003 but could still understand and communicate. His condition deteriorated after he had a bout of pneumonia and pulmonary hypertension.

Earlier this month, the doctor who wanted to impose his values on Golubchuk by forcing him off respirator and feeding tube resigned rather than continue treatment.

On Monday, doctors Bojan Paunovic and David Easton became the second and third to stop accepting shifts at Grace Hospital's critical care unit.

Family lawyer Neil Kravetsky told the Canadian Press that the Golubchuk family won their battle with hospital staff who wanted to take his life sooner.

'Mr. Golubchuk won,' Kravetsky said. He didn't die because they pulled him off life support. He died when his time had come.'

'No one took him off life support -- God did and that's what they were fighting for,' Kravetsky added."

I'm sure the Canadian Medical Assoc. can find another old/handicapped/brain damaged/sleeping patient in a hospital somewhere to refuse to feed and hydrate, thus establishing their exclusive right to determine the value of a life in their care.

And my friends think I'm wary of doctors out of a need to be obnoxiously 'anti-authority'. I just don't trust people who think they ARE God!

Canada's Rotten Apples...

"...The Canadian bioethics community offers an interesting case-study in split personality, being profoundly committed to “women’s right to choose” while being profoundly horrified by its collateral damage, namely the cheapening human life, especially old, sick or disabled life. Whether or not they are able to see the link is anyone’s guess: I sat on numerous presentations decrying the effects of prenatal genetic screening and diagnosis on human diversity but nowhere did I hear a semblance of battle cry to make it stop...Speaking from both sides of one’s mouth will only get you so far in eliminating injustice: by refusing to take a clear stance on the injustice of genetic terminations – including sex-based terminations – the Canadian bioethics community is effectively condoning the elimination of diversity from the Canadian demographic landscape..."

Quebec Connects with Reality

Suzanne reviews Quebec's new perinatal policy:

"..When I read government or medical documents dealing with abortion, I’m using to seeing a “neutral”, bureaucratic tone that presents abortion as a neutral event. The usual euphemisms are used. The usual assumption is that it will not cause any damage. It’s just like any other operation.

One member of the Orthodox Church, Father Vsevolod Chaplin, recently said of homosexuals, in an interview with newspaper Komsomolskaya Pravda, 'Such people are deeply unhappy'.
'I know it from confessions and numerous life stories. It's not by chance that they die earlier and there're more suicides, drug addicts and alcoholics among them,' he said...
'The Church lovingly accepts everyone, including those who have passion for people of the same sex. But just because she loves them, she says unisexual love is a sin. A destructive sin,' said Fr. Chaplin..."
