"Oh Canada, You Fell Asleep On Me"

Its been an interesting week in the land of loud liberals and quiet Christians (that would be Canada). The end result of the media and public 'servant' freak out over a Catholic clergyman expressing Catholic beliefs OUT LOUD in Quebec , is that the Quebec politicians are proposing that the federal gov't ensure the safety of all Canadian ears from hearing such free speech ever ever again!

Really!

American blogger Jimmy Akin sees this whole 'out of the closet' totalitarianism of the liberals, as a cautionary tale. How long before the American public becomes as quiet and docile as the Canadian? How long before Americans undergo a 'Christian Heritage Lobotomy'?

Not long folks, not long. And if you think a 'somewhat' conservative gov't will save you, check Canada again. (What's lined up for 2010+ isn't going to be good enough.)

It remains to be seen exactly how much more of this 'in your face' anti-freedom stuff can go on in the name of 'choice', without a backlash from non-sheeples ...

Which reminds me of a Marci McDonald joke :
Her book.
Not exactly original material, although its interesting that she is trying to make a buck by selling this old claptrap in Canada. No doubt she will (make a buck.) There's nothing Canadians like more than to give money to a deserving liberal.

Calgary Circus School : Part II

The University of Calgary 'powers that be' are so determined to keep a puritanically abortion welcoming atmosphere at their school, that they can't allow a dozen or so students to continue attending...in case they educate someone about the ugly reality of abortion while on campus:

John Carpay- Advocate
The University of Calgary has taken its war on free speech to a new front, charging its own students with "non-academic misconduct" for having erected a pro-life display on campus on April 8.

LifeSiteNews
The group has put up the GAP display, which compares abortion to past historical atrocities through the use of graphic images, on the University of Calgary grounds without incident eight times since 2006.

In 2009, the university charged six students with trespassing in relation to the display, but the crown prosecutor stayed these charges prior to a trial scheduled for November 2009. The university has threatened participating students with non-academic misconduct charges on the occasion of each display, but this is the first time they are following through with their threat.

UofC has attempted to force the club to turn their signs inwards so they are not facing passersby, but CPL has refused to comly. Leah Hallman, CPL's president, told LifeSiteNews (LSN) that UofC's demand “is essentially saying that we can speak as long as nobody can hear us, we can show images as long as nobody can see them.”

Hallman explained that on April 8th campus security ordered them to turn their signs inward, but they refused as they always have. Then security told them to leave the campus and the students again refused, “knowing that we have the right to be there.”

UofC is charging the students with having failed to comply with an order from campus security, but according to Hallman, “campus security has no right to censor our ... legitimate free speech.”

Calgary Herald
No, they're not backing down, and short of being physically carted away by U of C campus security, they'll continue their fight, steadfast in their belief they live in a society where speaking out is a right, not a privilege.

U of C Campus Prolife press conference:
History will not remember what illegitimate excuse they used, other than as a derogative footnote; but history will remember their transgression against freedom, and it is upon this that posterity shall judge them.

So let the university do whatever action their twisted worldview sees fit, for we fear not the judgment of tyranny.

Free Speech Canada - An Oxymoron

There's definitely a moron in there somewhere...

Free Canukistan has a pretty good wrap up of the big 'Ann Coulter' scandal/non-scandal/scandal. National Post also has a round-up of the American reaction to Canadian hospitality/PC ridiculousness. Lorne Gunter puts in his two cents. Univ.of Ottawa doesn't quite defend itself.

Too bad that students are getting a bad name over this debacle. It's really their parents' fault. Parents have been allowing the public schools to teach ridiculous political correctness and liberal faux values for decades. Check any public school board mandate for 'social reconstruction' ambitions. Canadian parents are a) too trusting and dependent on government, to the extent of abdicating their parental responsibility to properly educate their children. b) too lazy to figure it all out c) too selfish to care. Take your pick, the result is the same.

I'm speaking from my high horse, of course, since we long ago abandoned the public school system and took on the full responsibility of educating our own children. (We had the advantage of family example , Catholic/Christian imperative, and a familiarity with the public school system and the field of education- my husband has 20 yrs. as teacher/principal, most of it in Canada). Not everyone can or should homeschool, but it is an option for some. Everyone should hold the gov't responsible to provide education that is mandated by the taxpayer, not by left wing academics (like Mr. Houle of today's notoriety) who live in liberal lalaland.

Ann Coulter's response :
Since arriving in Canada I've been accused of thought crimes, threatened with criminal prosecution for speeches I hadn't yet given and denounced on the floor of the Parliament (which was nice because that one was on my "bucket list").

Posters advertising my speech have been officially banned, while posters denouncing me are plastered all over the University of Ottawa campus. Elected officials have been prohibited from attending my speeches. Also, the local clothing stores are fresh out of brown shirts.

Welcome to Canada!

I am Canadian, so I feel no remorse in hoping for maximum humiliation for those making us laughingstocks of the 'free' world, and the intelligent world, and the real world.

Stephen Lewis - UN Abortion Czar - Proud Canadian

If he hadn't already received an 'Order of Canada' , surely all the great work he's done promoting an increase of abortions worldwide, would qualify him!

LifeSiteNews:

....Lewis, the former UN Special Envoy for HIV/AIDS in Africa and a former Deputy Director of UNICEF, has long been a vociferous supporter of the creation of a “fully-resourced” women’s agency. Such an agency could change the UN and end the “suffocating patriarchy” with a new “sensibility of collaboration.” Lewis continued that this, “would not only help women but rescue the UN from some of its worst behavior.”

One audience member questioned the necessity of a new billion dollar agency. There are already several UN bodies which focus on issues affecting women, including the UN Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM), the UN Population Fund (UNFPA), Division for the Advancement of Women (DAW), Office of the Special Adviser on Gender Issues (OSAGI) and the International Research and Training Institute for the Advancement of Women (INSTRAW). Lewis said, “Rendering little agencies is not enough. There is not enough staff, not enough resources and no mandate.” He viewed the proposed agency as the UN’s “one last chance” to advocate for women multilaterally the way UNICEF does for children with a staff and budget to match.

It was during Mr. Lewis’ stint at UNICEF that the Vatican decided to withdraw its annual symbolic donation because of mounting evidence that the agency was promoting abortion. Critics fear that a new agency would not advocate for women but for certain ideologies espoused by those in charge, particularly for a universal right to abortion....

Lewis was speaking at a forum hosted by the Carnegie Council for Ethics in International Affairs . I wonder who's 'ethics' those might be?
The past several years, under the leadership of radical nihilists like Lewis, the UN has been pressuring all countries to provide open access to abortion, and to accept homosexuality as a normal lifestyle. The EU and Canada are far, far down this road already. They are especially anxious for the less developed and the under-developed (poor) countries to drastically limit their populations, as their own populations continue to dwindle and age.

Wake Up Canadians. Stop seeing as 'heroes' the very people who have despoiled the innocence of your young country. Stop sending your kids out to gather funds that support evil abroad. Stop keeping yourself so busy with leisure sports and artsy endeavors that you can pretend everything is great. Worthwhile activities no doubt, for the rich and comfortable - but you should care that you are supporting the ending of life for people in other countries.

You
should care.

U. of Calgary - Circus School

The administration of the University of Calgary has decided to sic the police on some young women students for expressing unapproved thoughts on campus. Well, it is a university after all - you can't go around letting students think for themselves! They are paying good money to be trained like seals!!

Ezra Levant (ticked off alumnus of U of C) weighs in:

...This is part of a disturbing trend of censorship on Canadian campuses. Just weeks ago, Queen's University announced roving squads of conversation "monitors" -- busybodies who would butt into private conversations to lecture students who said anything politically incorrect.

U of C goes straight for the cops.

In my travels, from time to time I find myself rebutting stereotypical perceptions of Calgary and Alberta. I point out that, in fact, our city has the highest rate of post-secondary education in the country; that we are very multicultural; that we are enlightened, and educated and open-minded, and I always have a half-dozen proof points.

But it's going to be tough to make the case now that the city's university sends cops after young women to bully them into ceasing their political discussions.

I'm glad to read that the Canadian Constitution Foundation has caught notice of the case; the Canadian Civil Liberties Association should intervene, too.

I think a pre-emptive lawsuit against U of C is in order (in addition to defending the students against the trespass charges). And -- far more effective -- a boycott on donations by alumni is in order, as well....

That's right. We're Canadian. You have to make it personal before we pay attention. (i.e. hit us where it hurts - the pocketbook!)

Merry Christmas

There have been 97,928 babies aborted in Canada so far this year.

(Our abortion counter was formulated using annual Stats Canada figures.)

Apparently it is now the official national Canadian position to celebrate abortion; and we are now duty-bound in this country to officially celebrate abortionists.

Please think and behave correctly.

Thanks Again Mr. Charest

Well, Quebeckers like to keep things interesting, non?

NP:
A new religion course taught in schools across Quebec was intended to improve inter-cultural understanding, but so far it is generating deep division as hundreds of parents pull their children out of class....

....Stéphanie Tremblay, a spokeswoman for Quebec's Education Department, said school boards across the province have received and rejected more than 1,400 requests from public-school parents seeking to have their children exempted from taking the course. The dissenters represent a small minority of the one million children enrolled in public schools.....

"The course was designed with an eye to respecting the freedom of conscience and religion of all students," she said. "It is not a religious instruction course. It is religious culture. We introduce young people to religious culture like we introduce them to musical culture. The goal is to better know and understand others."....

Meanwhile...

The new course is also mandatory in private schools, and Montreal's Loyola High School has initiated its own court challenge. Parents of more than 600 of the Jesuit school's students asked to have their children exempted from the course, and all were refused by the province.

Paul Donovan, the school's principal, said much of the curriculum is already taught at Loyola, but not in the "relativistic" way favoured by the Education Department.

He said the course does not ask children to distinguish between right and wrong. "What it essentially says is that religion is just, ‘You like tomato soup and I like pea soup, so don't be all offended because someone likes tomato soup. It's really just a matter of preference,' " he said. "Religion could be Wiccan or Raelian or any of the new movements or atheism or agnosticism."

So far Loyola has refused to teach the Ethics and Religious Culture class. "I can't tell my teachers to teach that course in conscience. I can't," Mr. Donovan said.

I don't think Ms. Stephanie really understands the concepts of 'parental perogative' and 'freedom of religion' - or for that matter, 'culture'!

How many more self immolating 'reforms' will Quebec endure under the rule of Monsieur Charest?

"If Stephen Harper Doesn't Care, Why Should We?"

Prime Minister Stephen Harper is sucking the west into his vortex of inhumanity by ignoring the call for freedom of expression on the abortion issue IN PARLIAMENT. By vowing to prevent ANY DISCUSSION he has set the tone for others:

LifeSiteNews
....Dr. Harvey Weingarten, president of the U of C, has stated in the past, "The role of universities is to promote, permit and enable the free exchange of ideas, debate and civil discourse. If universities do not support these values, which societal institutions will?" The president's comment reflects the university's own policy laid out in its Academic Calendar showing that the University aims "to promote free inquiry and debate."

However, the university is justifying its censorship of the pro-life display because of anonymous complaints, and claims that the display could provoke violent reactions. However, there have been no such incidents on the previous five occasions the display has been shown on campus.

"Banning an event because of the possibility of someone else being violent towards it, is like telling women they are not allowed to walk on campus at night because of the possibility they may be sexually assaulted," stated Leah Halllman, president of CPL...

The Repressive Regime Of Quebec

Lifesite News :
The new mandatory Ethics and Religious Culture program that was introduced this fall in Quebec schools has parents fuming, with many complaining that the program effectively removes their right to choose the kind of religious education their children receive. To show their displeasure a group of Quebec parents has organized a protest march for tomorrow, Saturday, October 18.

Three years ago, the clause in the Quebec Charter of Human Rights and Freedoms that guaranteed freedom of religious instruction and parental rights (parents have "the right to require that, in the public educational establishments, their children receive a religious or moral instruction in conformity with their convictions") was changed without any public consultation. The amended clause read that parents have the "right to give their children a religious and moral education in keeping with their convictions and with proper regard for their children's rights and interests."

Removal of the phrase "in the public educational establishments" meant that parents no longer had any say in what type of religious instruction is given in the schools.

The new compulsory religion course, from which children cannot be exempted, replaces three options that had been available to Quebec students - a generic course in moral education or two other courses that were either Catholic or Protestant in nature.

The Canadian Press reports that lawyer Jean-Yves Cote, representing a couple in Drummondville that has started legal action against the their local school board and the government, says the number of angry parents is likely in the thousands and is growing.

The suit filed by Cote seeks the right for parents to exempt their children from the course.

A request for exemption from the Ethics and Religious Culture program by Loyola High School, a private Catholic boys' school in Montreal, on the grounds that the course conflicted with the school's Catholic character, was refused by Education Minister Michelle Courchesne, which prompted the school administration also to take the issue to court...

Not Only In B.C.

Calgary Herald tells a tale of repression of parental rights and freedoms, and social engineering:

"...The couple, who are known homosexual activists, went to the B.C. Human Rights Tribunal to allege systemic discrimination against homosexuals by the B.C. Ministry of Education. A few years later, they filed another complaint. At first, the Ministry of Education denied the allegations but, as time dragged on, it decided to capitulate. The Ministry gave in -- without any defence or discussion, or even an impartial consideration of the allegations. In fact, it rolled over and played dead so fast it makes the Second World War Italian army look like hardcore U.S. Marines.

In giving up, the B.C. government made a legal agreement that gave the complainants unprecedented control and influence over the province's curriculum in exchange for dropping the human rights charges.

The complainants have since developed resources on alternative sexuality that teachers can use to integrate the topic into any subject from grades K to 12, as well as a Grade 12 course that covers issues like sexual orientation and gender identity.

The Education Ministry now proudly proclaims that it is a world leader in diversity training, but not all parents and teachers are pleased. There's controversy over the content and whether it should be an elective or a required course, and how appropriate the resources will be for young children and whether the whole scheme usurps the parent's role as the primary educator of their children. Just this week, it was announced that these events had spurred an initiative to "Take Back our Schools" by parents and organizations who believe the government has overstepped its limits..."

............................................................................

British Columbia is not alone in its penchant for taking rights away from parents and giving them to others. Last year the NS Dept. of Ed. decided to fire a schoolboard that was having difficulty accepting the dept's idea of a curriculum. Oh well. Why pretend to be democratic in Canada? Somehow the people with the MOST bizarre idea of 'public good' always think only the 'crazies' disagree, and everyone knows 'crazies' have no civil rights - like freedom.

Canada v. Catholicism

American Papist: Not Your Average Catholic!: Canada v. Catholicism:

"In Quebec, a french speaking province in Canada they have passed a law requiring all schools to teach a mandated course that will force Catholic schools to no longer be able to teach distinct Catholicism outside of social constructivism...This move by the Quebec government is quite literally the most dangerous regression of religious rights in North America. Because it is occurring in a French province in Canada it has not gotten the press it deserves,l it should serve as a canary in a mine..."

...........................................................................

They're getting desperate, and the more desperate they get - the more repressive they will be. Its up to the Quebecois, really. Are there any who care that they are being repressively 'managed' into good little state-owned peons? Anyone bristle at being told which holidays are fit, who their heroes are? Anyone feel put out by the IDEA of the gov't dictating that only the state religion should be allowed? The gov't also has a repressive attitude towards homeschoolers, which is consistent with their 'we will tell you what to believe' policy. Anyone feeling rebellious?

New Opportunities Abound For Harper

Oh Yeah!

Just think what floodgates of support and acceptance have been opened up with Harper's straightforward revelation that he supports killing off 100,000 Canadian babies a year. He may get calls to appear on 'The View' ! He can now be interviewed by Jane and Peter as 'friendlies'.! Where's his 'Order of Canada'? Get the man a new suit!

I'm sure it was worth it. Really. I mean, afterall, this isn't America! Harper can count on the Canadian Catholics not being a problem. And don't forget, he STILL HAS THE CHRC to keep in line any dissidents who may infringe on the rights of baby killers and perverts to indoctrinate our children in tax supported schools.

Oh Yeah. The party's just startin' folks!

"I Don't Want to be A Canadian Idiot"

Free Dominion posts an article on Maurice Strong - Canada's mascot.

" Before the United Nations can save the planet, it needs to clean up its own house. And as scandal after scandal has unfolded over the past decade, from Oil for Food to procurement fraud to peacekeeper rape, the size of that job has become stunningly clear.

But any understanding of the real efforts that job entails should begin with a look at the long and murky career of Maurice Strong, the man who may have had the most to do with what the U.N. has become today, and still sparks controversy even after he claims to have cut his ties to the world organization.

From Oil for Food to the latest scandals involving U.N. funding in North Korea, Maurice Strong appears as a shadowy and often critically important figure. "

Another O.C. 'contender'. (He doesn't already have one, does he? Maybe he can be knighted, or become President of the US?)

Sicko Canada Blues

David Warren expresses his disgust(which I share):

" Like many, many, many Canadians, I took the appointment of Henry Morgentaler to membership in the Order of Canada -- proclaimed on "Canada Day" -- as a stick in the eye for everything we believe in. As a gratuitous insult to the memory of three million aborted babies."

What I would like to know, is what the heck the Prime Minister actually 'stands' for? He's willing to let Morgentaler be presented to the world as Canada's 'best'! What does he think of the rest of us?

I don't feel like 'standing' for the national anthem . I don't respect a country that can't do any better.

I AM ASHAMED OF BEING CANADIAN!

Canada To Honour Serial Killer Morgentaler

Just in time for Canada Day, in a cruel show of depravity,we hear that our illustrious Governor General, Michaelle Jean, will bestow the 'Order of Canada' on the most prolific and notorious murderer in Canadian history.

'Dr.' Henry Morgentaler is to receive Canada's highest civilian honour.

Every Canadian adult knows who he is and what he has done. All know he is personally responsible for thousands of Canadian deaths through abortion, and has been abortion's greatest advocate. He has also reaped the financial awards of being the foremost abortion provider in a country with NO RESTRICTIONS.

Words cannot describe the sick feeling in the pit of my stomach, and the near despair I feel for the future of my grandchildren as Canadians. (Near, because they fortunately have a second home in a still-Christian country that does not allow abortions.) When I remember myself as twenty, still enamored with the Nation of my birth, with an idealistic fervor for her history of pioneers and my French-Irish roots, I weep for a lost love. I weep for the love denied my children, who have grown up aware of what Canada has become, girding themselves for the battle to recover her soul. I weep for those who gave their lives for our future, only to have it cannibalized by inhuman ideologues.

Henry Morgentaler is a sorry excuse for a man. He is not human. He is missing something essential - the ability to recognize and appreciate humanity. Apparantly, he is not alone. If we are to believe that the 'Order of Canada' represents a National feeling of honour and respect for the recipient, Canada is full of sorry excuses.(Backed up by 'thought police').

I don't live in Canada anymore, I visit family.I'm a 'cultural exile'. An 'ex-pat'. I can't raise my children in a country that hates children. They deserve better. Luckily for Canada, they're bound to be as prolific as other Canadians aren't. Sooner or later the baby lovers will simply outnumber the zombies.
Then we'll all move home.

Louise Arbour - As Good As The UN Gets?

Joseph Ben-Ami pegs Louise Arbour, and the UN :

"The real problem isn’t that Louise Arbour is a disgrace, it’s that she--and by extension the entire UN human rights bureaucracy--is irrelevant...

In fairness, no declaration of concern, nor statement of condemnation, nor expression of anger or outrage, could ever influence the behaviour of those individuals and regimes that engage in such heinous human rights abuses. As former general, now senator, Romeo Dallaire has noted, mere words did not save a single life in Rwanda, nor are they saving lives in Darfur today.

On the other hand, the impact of statements from officials like Ms. Arbour can deter the advancement of human rights. Consider her “even-handed” scolding of Israel and Hezbollah in 2006. Ms. Arbour was simply wrong to imply that there was no difference between accidental civilian deaths resulting from attacks on military targets undertaken by Israel and those caused by the deliberate and indiscriminate missile attacks of Hezbollah on Israeli towns and cities. In so doing, she undermined the efforts of the international community to isolate and dismantle an international criminal organization that has brought untold suffering to innocent people over the years--the vast majority of whom are Lebanese, not Israeli...

Canada's Rotten Apples...

At ProwomanProlife:

"...The Canadian bioethics community offers an interesting case-study in split personality, being profoundly committed to “women’s right to choose” while being profoundly horrified by its collateral damage, namely the cheapening human life, especially old, sick or disabled life. Whether or not they are able to see the link is anyone’s guess: I sat on numerous presentations decrying the effects of prenatal genetic screening and diagnosis on human diversity but nowhere did I hear a semblance of battle cry to make it stop...Speaking from both sides of one’s mouth will only get you so far in eliminating injustice: by refusing to take a clear stance on the injustice of genetic terminations – including sex-based terminations – the Canadian bioethics community is effectively condoning the elimination of diversity from the Canadian demographic landscape..."

How Will The CCCB Respond?

Human Life Int'l is asking all Catholic clergy WORLDWIDE to sign a document in explicit support of 'Humanae Vitae':

"HLI President Rev. Thomas J. Euteneuer said, 'In the face of a whole generation of silence and dissent to this most critical of all papal encyclicals, HLI is endeavoring to form a new generation of assent, both from the ranks of the existing clergy and among those who are studying for Holy Orders.'"

One wonders how the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops will respond to this challenge, having yet to rescind their infamous 'Winnipeg Statement'.

I'm also interested to know whether they feel any personal responsibility for the moral morass that now exists in Canada, most specifically the deplorable actions of 'Catholic' politicians over the last 30 years!

Maybe now would be a good time to make amends?
