While All Europe is in Deep Denial...
The comments thread on You Tube is worth a look...
by SHOW OF HANDS - "ROOTS"
...Haul away boys, let them go
Out in the wind and the rain and snow
We've lost more than we'll ever know
'Round the rocky shores of England
We need roots
And a minister said his vision of hell
Is three folk singers in a pub near Wales
Well, I've got a vision of urban sprawl
There's pubs where no-one ever sings at all
And everyone stares at a great big screen
Overpaid soccer stars, prancing teens
Australian soap, American rap
Estuary English, baseball caps
And we oughta be ashamed of all we walk
Of the way we look, at the way we talk
Without our stories or our songs
How will we know where we come from?
I've lost St. George and the Union Jack
That's my flag too and I want it back
Seed, bark, flower, fruit
Never gonna grow without their roots
Branch, stem, shoot
We need roots ...

Nothing Impossible With GOD
New York abortuary closes after 40-day prayer vigil
New York, Apr. 25, 2008 (CWNews.com) - An abortion clinic in Rockland County, New York, announced its closing on April 25. It was one of 50 American abortion centers targeted by the “40 Days for Life” prayer campaign.
"We rejoice with pro-lifers in Rockland County, New York today," said David Bereit, national campaign director of 40 Days for Life, in response to the news that Abortion Services was closing. Bereit recalled that once, during the 40-day prayer vigil, "My wife and children were photographed alongside a young man who carried a sign reading, 'Nothing is impossible with God.'”
Bereit said there are also reports that two Planned Parenthood locations where 40 Days for Life prayer vigils were held have stopped performing abortions. One is in Lincoln, Nebraska and the other is in Council Bluffs, Iowa. In both cases the cessation of abortions was unexpected.
40 Days for Life is a community-based campaign that features 40 days of prayer and fasting, constant peaceful vigil outside an abortion facility and intense public outreach. Plans are now under way for another round of concurrent 40 Days for Life campaigns this fall.

REAL WOMAN GOVERNOR
Alaskan Governor Sarah Palin, Alaska's youngest and first woman governor, stood up for life this week - twice. Once as Governor, and once as the mother of her second son, her fifth child .
"After refusing to introduce two abortion restricting bills to a special session on a natural gas pipeline on Wednesday because of fears that the bills would not likely succeed, Governor Sarah Palin expressed her willingness to bring the legislation to separate sessions.
House Bill 301 would forbid partial birth abortions, while House Bill 364 would require parental consent for women under 17 seeking abortion."
Sarah Palin gave birth April 18 to a child with Down's Syndrome.
"We knew through early testing he would face special challenges, and we feel privileged that God would entrust us with this gift and allow us unspeakable joy as he entered our lives. We have faith that every baby is created for good purpose and has potential to make this world a better place. We are truly blessed," Palin stated.
Alaska is blessed.
UN/EU - Social Engineering is Alive and Well!
All things considered, Pope Benedict was very diplomatic with the UN .
They've been very persistent in their push for special 'rights' for women and homosexuals - they want open doors for abortion, and government and public acceptance of homosexuality as 'normal'. Everywhere. IN THE WHOLE WORLD!
DO YOU HEAR THIS CAYMAN?
The UN and the EU have a mission....and it isn't doesn't include protecting our 'innocence'!! Britain will give us up in a heartbeat, to whatever comes down the pipe, and our 'modernized' constitution and embedded bill of 'rights' is meant to pave the way for our cultural 'renewal'.
I know. We're going to have to learn the hard way.
Looking around at what's been happening the world over is too much work! Then we'd have to be coming up with an alternate plan !
The local newspapers are as useful as the papers in Canada and the UK - no fear of actually engaging in intelligent and informative conversation! You'd almost think THEY WOULD LIKE TO SEE A CULTURAL CHANGE, ( away from that pesky Christianity!)
Sigh.
Its kind of nice, living here , where you can still express your Christianity openly. Where a prayerful person is not unusual. and an actual Christian culture still exists.
So far.

Call to Action
Pro-Life Unity has put out a call for volunteers. If you have skills to share, and time to spare - they have lots of work!
Tribute to a Catholic Hero
Pope Benedict honoured his friend and long-time servant of the Lord, Cardinal Lopez Trujillo, with a homily at his funeral yesterday. Benedict spoke about the excellent example of Christian service lived by Cardinal Trujillo :
"We cannot fail to be thankful for the tenacious battle that he waged in defense of the 'truth' of family love and the spreading of the 'Gospel of the family'...the belief that each human being and each family reflects the mystery of God who is love."

Catholic Carival #169
Catholic Carnival #169 is up at We Belong to the Lord . This week has a number of posters sharing their experience of Pope Benedict's visit, along with a few new books, and a whole lot of other interesting stuff! Enjoy!
HUH?!
"The Swiss federal government's ethics committee on non-human
biotechnology has mapped out guidelines to help granting agencies decide which research applications deeply offend the dignity of plants-- and hence become unfundable."
Well, what a relief! I was worried those plants were being treated like unborn, handicapped, old PEOPLE!

Real Doctors
Apparantly, more and more Italian doctors have taken advantage of 'conscience' legislation, and refused to perform abortions.
Bully for them!
Free Speech Fund-Raiser
"Richard Warman, member of Stormfront and the Canadian 'Human Rights' Commission's all but sole plaintiff, recently embarked on legal action against The National Post and its columnist Jonathan Kay plus five bloggers: Ezra Levant, Kate McMillan, Kathy Shaidle and Mark and Connie at Free Dominion.
"All these folks have been important voices in exposing the rot at the CHRC and the improper and corrupt procedures that have developed since Warman began using the Commission as his personal inquisition. Those in favor of rolling back the 'human rights' commissions' powers now include the Canadian Association of Journalists, the Canadian Civil Liberties Association, PEN Canada, Liberal MP Keith Martin and every major newspaper from the conservatish National Post to the liberal Toronto Star.
"But these five bloggers were among the first to get the ball rolling and their energy has been critical to the campaign to restore free speech to Canada.
"So, in order to support the Freedom Five as they resist Mr Warman's attempt to shut them down, we're holding a special fundraiser until midnight Eastern Time tonight."
LIFE DECISIONS
Life Decisions International has published a list of responses from companies that financially support Planned Parenthood, when informed that such support would add their company to a 'boycott' list for LIFE supporters.
Seems most of them don't 'get' that LIFE supporters are unwilling to support businesses that support DEATH .
Then again, how bright can they be if supporting Planned Parenthood is their idea of a 'good deed'?
'Blessed'
Cardinal John Henry Newman is to be BEATIFIED .
"We can believe what we choose. We are answerable for what we choose to believe."
(Cardinal Newman)
While he is not actually American, we certainly are looking forward to his recognition as a 'Blessed' (and his pending 'miracle' IS Stateside...)

Cardinal Pell disputes the 'settled' science of global warming. (h/t american papist)
"...it is an intolerant bandwagon with loud, exaggerated claims that the issue is settled and that an unchallenged consensus among scientists confirms the hypothesis of dangerous, humanly caused global warming. In fact, the issue is far from settled..."

A JOB OFFER AT CLEANFISH EVANGELIST
...................................................................
AND IN THE PHILLIPINES we have doom and gloom predictions...
"...7,000 islands will be reduced to perhaps 1,000. The Hundred Islands in Pangasinan province will thenceforth be Zero Island, and the celebrated Boracay Island will be no more, something that can be compared to the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah or the sinking of the city of Atlantis. Navotas town, Malabon City, Valenzuela City and the reclamation area in Manila and Pasay City will be swamped. The seas will engulf the fishing villages along the shorelines and even great cities beside the sea like Manhattan will partly go under..."

UPDATE! What Happened to Global Cooling?
Benedict Loves America
Newt Gingrich shares his personal impressions of the Papal visit to America, as well as a photo album from DC .
"...my impression of the Pope has grown far beyond the original reports of his intellectual strength and his dedication to rebuilding faith and reason (in contrast to the secular dictatorship of rationality which he had experienced in Nazi Germany and had seen in the Soviet tyranny). The leader we saw was the embodiment of leadership and conviction whose presence made an enormous impact on those who experienced it. The pope is clearly not going to be simply an interim leader between Pope John Paul II and some future younger leader. Pope Benedict XVI is going to be an historic force for the reassertion of faith and reason in the lives of Catholics and people of all faiths..."
Notre Dame Eucharistic Procession
(h/t Fr.Z)
Notre Dame's Eucharistic Procession was oustanding this year, as witnessed by the Kloska family herewith beautiful photographs!
"..It was a gorgeous day on campus. We estimate about 600 people were praying devotedly to Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament. Happily, there were many Kloskas and blog readers present. If you look closely, you will see us in some of these pictures. You'll also see multiple Franciscans, a Benedictine, a Dominican, a diocesan priest as well as many Congregation of Holy Cross priests, sisters, brothers, and seminarians..."
Next year, April 26th!

I don't want to take all the credit, but I believe my threat to withdraw ALL SUPPORT FOREVER if they lost this series, was definitely the winning motivation!

Sincere Appreciation
"The Catholic Church has been a rock in a raging sea and it is my prayer that it will never change." (George W. Bush)
"This has been a joyous week," said the President beaming and eliciting applause. "It's been a joyous time for Catholics - and it wasn't such a bad week for Methodists, either," he added. "The excitement was just palpable. The streets were lined with people that were so thrilled that the Holy Father was here. And it was such a privilege to welcome this good man to the United States".
Value of Womanhood
"To a great extent the level of any civilization is the level of its womanhood. When a man loves a woman, he has to become worthy of her. The higher her virtue, the more her character, the more devoted she is to truth, justice, goodness, the more a man has to aspire to be worthy of her. The history of civilization could actually be written in terms of the level of its women."~Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen
