Liberals Are Not Pro-Woman, They Are Pro-Abortion

American Thinker:

....The continuous assault on Sarah Palin is not so difficult to understand. In fact, it can be summed up thusly: she's a woman opposed to abortion. You see, when a man says he's opposed to abortion, women who disagree can accuse him of trying to control a woman's body and/or simply not understanding how a woman feels about dealing with pregnancy, career achievement and defeating the "good ole boy" network. But, how are they going to justify that to a Sarah Palin, who has raised a family, been elected to the highest office in her state and has gained a reputation as a corruption fighter? And a woman decided to keep, raise, and love a Down syndrome child, her son Trig.

Governor Palin represents a stake in the heart of the abortion movement and for that reason alone, she must be sniped at, ridiculed and trashed until her name becomes a scarlet letter on the bosom of every woman who dares to challenge the inner sanctum of liberal orthodoxy....

Its much harder to justify abortion as the panacea of feminist freedom and choice when one woman like Sarah Palin can overcome all their objections to valuing EVERY life - by her own everyday example of feminist freedom. She exemplifies every woman's freedom to choose to be fully active, fully intelligent, fully successful, and fully woman. Its especially the exercise of the freedom to be fully woman and human that irks the abortion lobby, and most threatens it.

"To a great extent the level of any civilization is the level of its womanhood. When a man loves a woman, he has to become worthy of her. The higher her virtue, the more her character, the more devoted she is to truth, justice, goodness, the more a man has to aspire to be worthy of her. The history of civilization could actually be written in terms of the level of its women."~Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen

"A mother is the most important person on earth. She cannot claim the honor of having built Notre Dame Cathedral. She need not. She has built something more magnificent than any Cathedral -- a dwelling for an immortal soul, the tiny perfection of her baby's body".( Cardinal Joseph Mindszenty)

"Small, bitter people saying foolish things"

Michelle Malkin on 'beyond the Palin' remarks by anonymous McCain (ex?)staffers:

....Sarah Palin worked her heart out. She energized tens of thousands to come out who would have otherwise stayed home. She touched countless families. I didn’t agree with everything she said on the campaign trail. But two fundamental conservative stands she took mattered greatly to me: She vigorously defended the Second Amendment and the sanctity of life more eloquently in practice than any of the educated conservative aristocracy.

And she did it all with a tirelessness and infectious optimism that defied the shameless, bottomless attempts by elites in both parties to bring her and her family down.

Shame on the smearers who don’t have the balls to show their faces...

I can't even imagine how bad McCain's results would have been without Sarah Palin's energy and 'people power'. He didn't even wake up until 2 weeks ago!

Did She Mean Canada?

Sarah Palin warns about 'big government':

“See, under a big government agenda, what you thought was yours, your income, your property, your inventory, your investments, really would belong to somebody else, to everybody else. And it would be shared with everybody else.” Palin said, “That philosophy of government taking more, which is a misuse of the power to tax. It leads to government moving into the role of taking care of you and government and politicians and kind of moving in as the other half of your family to make decisions for you. Now they do this in other countries where the people are not free.”

Wente Can't See The Story For Her Prejudice

'Elizabeth' commented at ProWomanProLife:

"Thank you for taking a pro-Palin position here. I was quite annoyed with Wente’s column; it was genuinely sexist. This is a VP candidate who has more experience than Obama, but the press refuses to acknowledge this. Instead, it is all about her clothes, she is a ditz, etc. She not only has experience, but a number of accomplishments in a very short time period. After 50 days on the national scene she has performed reasonably well, while Biden (after decades in Washington) makes insane mistakes in terms of knowledge of foreign affairs that scare the h*** out of me. If McCain loses, I really hope Palin beats Obama in 2012.

Here we have an amazingly accomplished woman, who did it all herself with no politician husband or wealthy connections and so -called feminists cannot even acknowledge any of this. Her husband is exactly what these women would call a “feminist” - does diapers, is not threatened by his wife,s success, seems like a wonderful father - but most refuse to acknowledge this as he is also pro-life. I loved her story about when she first told him she was expected Trig and she asked him “why did God choose us to have a down syndrome baby” and Todd answered “well, why not us?”. With all the men out there abandoning kids, pressuring women into abortion or convincing them they will be deadbeat - Todd’s attitude should be celebrated.

Why are no feminists willing to admit that the images of a VP candidate with a husband cradling an infant is a landmark for women? Never before in history. I am astonished as to why this pic is not on the cover of Ms. with some kind of heading like “21st century feminist husband” or something.

Anyways - it all comes down to the “right” to kill fetuses I guess. Does not matter how accomplished, groundbreaking or impressive one is - without that belief it counts for nothing."

LIFE - Palin, DEATH - Obama

Sarah Palin speaks in Johnstown, Pennsylvania :

..In this same spirit, as defenders of the culture of life, John McCain and I believe in the goodness and potential of every innocent life. I believe the truest measure of any society is how it treats those who are least able to defend and speak for themselves. And who is more vulnerable, or more innocent, than a child?

When I learned that my son Trig would have special needs, I had to prepare my heart for the challenges to come. At first I was scared, and Todd and I had to ask for strength and understanding. But I can tell you a few things I’ve learned already.

Yes, every innocent life matters. Everyone belongs in the circle of protection. Every child has something to contribute to the world, if we give them that chance. There are the world’s standards of perfection … and then there are God’s, and these are the final measure. Every child is beautiful before God, and dear to Him for their own sake...

...It’s hard to think of many issues that could possibly be more important than who is protected in law and who isn’t – who is granted life and who is denied it. So when our opponent, Senator Obama, speaks about questions of life, I listen very carefully.

I listened when he defended his unconditional support for unlimited abortions. He said that a woman shouldn’t have to be – quote – “punished with a baby.” He said that right here in Johnstown –“punished with a baby” – and it’s about time we called him on it. The more I hear from Senator Obama, the more I understand why he is so vague and evasive on the subject. Americans need to see his record for what it is. It’s not negative or mean-spirited to talk to about his record. Whatever party you belong to, there are facts you need to know...

Palin's OK, But What About Me? - Noonan

Good Commentary on 'American Catholic':

...So far as I can tell from personal observation, the reason people are swooning over Palin’s “authenticity” is not really that she rides snow machines and shoots moose (though it’s true that many of us men have a soft spot in our hearts for attractive women who dig male past times) but rather that she seems set apart from many politicians in that she says what she believes and believes what she says. Key among these: she says she’s pro-life, she’s a member of Feminists For Life, and shows good signs of living her convictions. Further, people believe that she’s serious for the simple reason that like many of the people they know in their own churches and neighborhoods: she just seems like an ordinary person who says what she believes — not like a politician...
...This is the thing about outside-the-beltway social conservatives which many conservative elites do not quite seem to get: We really care about what politicians views are on the topics dear to our hearts — and we care very little about how charming they’ve made themselves over the years in network green rooms and DC cocktail hours...

I agree. They don't get it. Palin lives it.

Why Not Indeed, Bill?

Clinton had some interesting comments about Sarah Palin...

"Speaking to reporters before his Clinton Global Initiative meeting, the former president described Palin's appeal by adding, "People look at her, and they say, 'All those kids. Something that happens in everybody's family. I'm glad she loves her daughter and she's not ashamed of her. Glad that girl's going around with her boyfriend. Glad they're going to get married.'"

Clinton said voters would think, "I like that little Down syndrome kid. One of them lives down the street. They're wonderful children. They're wonderful people. And I like the idea that this guy does those long-distance races. Stayed in the race for 500 miles with a broken arm. My kind of guy."

Palin, the governor of Alaska, became an overnight star when Republican presidential candidate John McCain tapped her for his running mate. Her family, including her Down syndrome baby, Trig, her pregnant 17-year-old daughter, Bristol, and her husband, Todd, four-time winner of the 2,000-mile Iron Dog snowmobile race, have garnered intense media interest.

"I get this," Clinton said. "My view is ... why say, ever, anything bad about a person? Why don't we like them and celebrate them and be happy for her elevation to the ticket? And just say that she was a good choice for him and we disagree with them?"

NCR:"Palin Family Values and the Abortion Debate"

"Perhaps the most absorbing element of this election season is the spectacle of abortion activists and media analysts grappling with both Gov. Sarah Palin’s decision to spare the life of her Down syndrome child and her teenage daughter’s decision to continue her pregnancy and marry the father of her unborn child.

As a group of talking heads on television expressed their amazement at the state of the Palin household, I thought of William May, my moral theology professor at the John Paul II Institute for Studies on Marriage and Family, and his penchant for poking holes in the tortured logic of abortion advocates. May could nail the source of abortion supporters’ present discomfort in a nanosecond: Palin’s family choices directly challenge arguments that justify abortion as the “lesser evil.”

Since the ’60s, reproductive rights activists have presented abortion as perhaps the best solution for the scourge of teenage pregnancy, inner-city poverty, gender inequality, and the suffering experienced by disabled infants and their families. But May didn’t buy those arguments: “If abortion is the ‘lesser evil,’” he used to tell our class, “then the alternative — keeping the baby — constitutes the ‘greater evil.’ But how can that position be proved?”...more

Democrat Rumour Upstaged

Gov. Sarah Palin announced today that her daughter Bristol is expecting the Palin's first grandchild:

"Bristol Palin, one of Palin's five children with her husband, Todd, is about five months pregnant and is going to keep the child and marry the father, the Palins said in a statement released by the campaign of Republican presidential candidate John McCain.

Bristol Palin made the decision on her own to keep the baby, McCain aides said.

'We have been blessed with five wonderful children who we love with all our heart and mean everything to us,' the Palins' statement said.

'Our beautiful daughter Bristol came to us with news that as parents we knew would make her grow up faster than we had ever planned. As Bristol faces the responsibilities of adulthood, she knows she has our unconditional love and support,'the Palins said."

Palin Increasing RNC Bankroll

Washington Post:

"..Sen. John McCain has taken in $7 million in contributions since announcing Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate, a top campaign aide said today.

The money bounce may owe to Palin's appeal with conservative donors, many of whom said privately they had planned on sitting out the campaign this year. The money comes in just under the wire -- after McCain accepts the GOP nomination Thursday, he will accept public funds and no longer be permitted to raise private money for the campaign.

That will not, however, stop McCain and Palin from raising money for the Republican National Committee. In coming weeks, McCain will host four megafundraising events in major cities aimed at bolstering the accounts of the party. Palin, meanwhile, will be sent out to headline more than a dozen fundraising events for the RNC.

Shortly before Palin's announcement, one senior RNC official said McCain's pick 'better like doing fundraising.'"

Back to the Culture Wars

Fr. Raymond deSouza:

"..The Palin selection indicates that the McCain campaign wishes to sharpen this contrast. A few months ago, it was widely thought that this election would leave behind the red-state/blue-state Bush elections. Instead of cultural politics, there would be personality politics. McCain, the noblest war veteran in America, versus Obama, the anointed one who would heal the planet and calm the oceans. It would be a new kind of election.

Then surprises. The man of change, Obama, chose the safest, most insider running mate imaginable, Joe Biden. The old man, McCain, went with the groundbreaking outsider. It is all upside down, but the result will be a campaign quite familiar. In a culture war election, Governor Palin will be a not-so-secret weapon."

Ahead of the Game

Beldar Bloglists his previous posts on Sarah Palin:
"I'm enthused — and oh-so-pleasantly surprised! — about John McCain's choice of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin to be his running mate, for all of the reasons stated in my previous posts about her [and new ones, which I'll be adding to this table as I write them)..."

More on Palin

Proecclessia:
"And when it came to picking a running mate, Sen. McCain didn't go "safe". He went BOLD ... picking a female governor with real accomplishments in taking on and winning against government corruption within her own party. The REAL fresh face in this election belongs to Gov. Sarah Palin. Inexperienced? As Mark Levin points out in my earlier post, Gov. Palin has more executive experience in her 2 years than Senators McCain, Biden, and Obama combined..."

Te Deum:
"Let me ask this: If then Gov. Bill Clinton of Arkansas, at 46 years of age, was experienced enough to be elected president, then why would anyone question the competency of a 44 year old Governor from Alaska to serve as Vice President..."

BigBlueWave:
"Palin proved her pro-life credentials in a powerful way earlier this year year when she gave birth to her fifth child, born with Down Syndrome, despite receiving pressure from doctors to abort. At a time when a vast majority of Down Syndrome children are aborted..."

JillStanek:
"John McCain just hit a grand slam.
With McCain's announcement today that AK Gov. Sarah Palin will be his running mate, Barack Obama's abortion problem just got a whole lot bigger..."

CatholicMom:
"Fasten your seat belts. We're in for a very bumpy ride..."

And for your daily dose of sardonic humour - Scrappleface:
"..Sen. Obama, who chose an elderly white man name Joe Biden as his running mate rather than his rival Sen. Hillary Clinton, said he avoided picking Mrs. Clinton 'to spare her the humiliation that John McCain plans to impose on Sarah Palin.'

'The only way she’ll be able to break into the old-boy network of the presidency,' said Sen. Obama, 'is over John McCain’s dead body. McCain is literally the man who stands in her way.'"

O.K. I'm envious. The American campaign is going to be sooo much more fun than the Canadian one!
